Exciting times to come: Animal Flow with Prime Mover Fitness
We’re in uncertain times at the moment. Life keeps throwing curve balls at us and things keep changing. I’ve been pleased to be able to collaborate with Prime Mover Fitness to use their venue but, after speaking to the owner Danny last week, I’m really excited to be able to collaborate further with them in the New Year.
In a world that’s fast adapting to being online, I’ve struggled to keep up with offering a high quality service. I’ve had ideas of offering online content but have lacked the funds, knowledge and tech to put it into action. So imagine my joy when Danny told me about what his ideas for Prime Mover involve: an online platform offering a wide range of classes, nutrition advice and a holistic approach to overall health.
I can provide something new and different with my Beyond Pilates biomechanics-inspired classes and Animal Flow classes. Prime Mover will provide the use of a studio with cameras already set up to film the content.
We’re stronger together
I’m a big believer that we need to do lots of different things to maintain overall health. Most of my clients have hobbies, whether that’s strength training, swimming, hiking, yoga or something else. I also know we’re drawn to the things we’re good at. Which is a good thing, we need to get some enjoyment out of what we’re doing or we’re unlikely to do it again, but sometimes it has value to get outside our comfort zone and try something different.
I’m pretty good at being mindful of my movement all the time because I’m less interested in exercise. It requires more effort for me to get a sweat on, not just in the obvious sense that it requires more energy but in the motivational sense to do it in the first place! So I’m taking steps to put myself in an environment where I’m more likely to do that, and encourage you to take a look at what Prime Mover Fitness has to offer.
Are you more inclined the other way though? If you like to train hard, you might do well to try something a bit different and slow down occasionally.
Animal Flow at Prime Mover – an intro workshop
For the next two weeks over the festive period I’ll be running a beginner’s Animal Flow intro workshop on Wednesdays at 10.30am. We’ll go through some of the foundational Animal Flow moves to give you an idea of what it is, and repeat some drills so that you can start building the strength and co-ordination required to put it together.
Animal Flow is ground based movement, made fun, challenging and effective. This system is designed to improve strength power, flexibility, mobility, and coordination for all levels of fitness enthusiasts.
If you’d like to read a bit more about the benefits of Animal Flow, check out a longer blog I wrote about it last year.
More to come in January
Biomechanics is the science of human motion – applying the laws of physics to the human body. Imagine a machine which is working out of alignment, and that wonky movement was repeated again and again. Over time there would be wear which may cause a breakdown. Whilst the human body is far more complex than a machine, really, the same thinking can apply. We look at the difference between unconnected, tiring movement and how we move at our most effective and efficient.
This is the kind of stuff that makes us feel happy and well. When we align, or stack, our bodies better, we breathe better and move better. When we move in a more varied way, as our bodies are capable of doing, we feel better. So, we look at how to move not only our whole bodies more, but also how to move each individual body part more. Simply put, we help you move more parts of you more often and more effectively.
Keep your eyes peeled in the New Year for some Beyond Pilates biomechanics classes and other short workshops going into different subjects of interest.
